The organizational case

Your most experienced talent does not need to be managed toward the sidelines. It needs to be activated.

Activation is a leadership and knowledge-transfer question before it is a development question. When experience stays quiet, contribution narrows, multigenerational exchange slows, and the organization loses access to judgment it already paid for.

01

Experience is present, but contribution may be underused.

Seasoned judgment stays inside a single role while priorities elsewhere in the organization go under-supported.

02

Capability exists, but confidence and visibility may have stalled.

People who are entirely capable stop volunteering, stop speaking up, and stop being considered.

03

Institutional knowledge becomes vulnerable when it remains invisible or unshared.

What one person knows how to handle becomes a single point of failure the organization cannot see.

Signature keynote

The Encore Authority™

Your Experience Is Your Advantage

A transformative, action-centered keynote that helps experienced professionals recognize the authority already contained in what they have learned, solved, survived and accomplished; understand why purposeful visibility and contribution matter; and choose one concrete action that makes their experience more useful to the organization and the people they serve.

The business challenge

Organizations invest for decades in the judgment, relationships and institutional knowledge of their most experienced people—then watch that capability go quiet. Contribution narrows, visibility fades, and hard-earned knowledge stays with individuals instead of moving through the organization.

Organizational outcomes

  • Reframe experience as a current leadership and organizational asset.
  • Identify an underused area of expertise connected to a current priority.
  • Communicate hard-earned value with greater clarity and confidence.
  • Select one visible leadership, knowledge-transfer, or contribution action.
  • Leave with a practical path from clarity to impact.

Ideal audiences

  • Corporate leadership and employee-development programs
  • Women's leadership conferences and networks
  • ERGs and BRGs
  • Professional and trade associations
  • Multigenerational workforce and experienced-talent initiatives

Formats

  • 45–60 minute keynote
  • Customized conference or corporate edition
  • Workshop and leadership-development adaptation
  • Virtual or hybrid adaptation where appropriate

Encore Authority Blueprint™

Clarity · Credibility · Visibility · Influence · Impact

The path Randy takes an audience through. Each stage names what commonly stalls, what he helps activate, and why it matters to the organization.

1.Clarity

What can stall here

Experience is broad but unnamed. People describe their history instead of the problems they can solve.

What Randy helps activate

A plain-language account of what someone has actually learned to do, drawn from what they have solved, survived and accomplished.

Why it matters to the organization

Leaders can see where seasoned judgment already exists and match it to current priorities.

2.Credibility

What can stall here

Capability is real but unproven to a new audience, a new leader, or a new part of the business.

What Randy helps activate

Evidence framed in terms the organization recognizes: decisions made, risks handled, outcomes supported, people developed.

Why it matters to the organization

Confidence in experienced talent is grounded in evidence rather than tenure or assumption.

3.Visibility

What can stall here

Contribution happens quietly. Knowledge stays inside one team, one inbox, or one person's head.

What Randy helps activate

Purposeful visibility—speaking, teaching, mentoring, documenting, and contributing where it is useful.

Why it matters to the organization

Institutional knowledge moves. Fewer single points of failure, more shared capability.

4.Influence

What can stall here

People are present in the room but not shaping the decision, so perspective arrives too late to matter.

What Randy helps activate

The ability to bring hard-earned perspective into decisions clearly, early, and without overstatement.

Why it matters to the organization

Better decisions, informed by people who have already seen what does and does not work.

5.Impact

What can stall here

Effort is steady, but its connection to what the organization is trying to accomplish is unclear.

What Randy helps activate

One chosen, visible action that connects experience to a live organizational priority.

Why it matters to the organization

Experience becomes contribution the organization can see, use and build on.

Corporate outcomes

What organizations bring Randy in to move.

Programs are shaped around the outcome you are accountable for, not a fixed script.

  • Experienced-talent activation

Help seasoned professionals see current, usable value in what they already know.

  • Women's leadership

Support accomplished women in claiming voice, visibility and leadership contribution.

  • Confidence through action

Treat confidence as a capability built by action, not a personality trait.

  • Visibility and voice

Make useful expertise findable inside the organization instead of invisible.

  • Leadership contribution

Move experienced people from steady performance to visible leadership contribution.

  • Multigenerational workforce value

Create exchange between generations that goes beyond a mentoring program.

  • Institutional knowledge and knowledge transfer

Reduce the risk of knowledge that lives with individuals rather than the organization.

  • Influence and impact

Bring hard-earned perspective into decisions early enough to matter.

Why Randy

He teaches this because he had to live it.

At 59, Randy experienced a major career disruption and had to confront questions about identity, relevance, confidence and what came next. That experience shaped his belief that people are not necessarily starting over when they enter a new chapter—they are building from everything they have already learned.

The journey contributed to his book, Breakthrough: The Science of Getting Unstuck, and to the development of The Encore Authority™. It is also why he speaks to organizations rather than only to individuals: the question of whether experience gets used is a leadership decision, not a personal one.

You are not starting over. You are building from experience.

“Randy Powell is a powerful speaker who can engage with his audience with ease. Not only can Randy connect with his audience and make them feel comfortable, but he can also keep their attention by sharing stories, entertaining, and helping the audience remember at least one thing. The first time I heard Randy speak he introduced himself and started passing out chocolates to the audience. Randy does not stand up in front; he moves around the room and makes eye contact with each attendee. I remember Randy suggesting to the audience to read at least 10 pages of a book each day and by the end of the year, you should have completed reading a few books. The book Randy recommended was The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. It has been a few years since I first saw Randy speak. As you can see, he made a huge impact on me and gave me a lot to take home that day. I have read The Slight Edge and try hard to read 10 pages of a book each day.”
